Gloves
CO 40. If knitting in the round, PM at the end of the sts and join without twisting sts. Row/Rnd 1: P1, *k2, p2*, p1. Row/Rnd 2 and all WS rows/rnds: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts. Row/Rnd 3: Work as for Row/Rnd 3 of pattern.

Repeat Rows/Rnds 2 and 3 until you have 3 twists. At this point you will eliminate 1 ribbed cable from each end every other twist round until 2 twists remain. Do this by not twisting the knit sts and by knitting the last 2 purls on each end. The result will be a stockinette palm side opposite the cabled pyramid. Continue to twist the center 2 cables 3 more times. Begin thumb gusset.

Right thumb gusset:
K9, PM, Inc-right, Inc-left, PM, work to end. Every other row inc 1 st after the first marker and 1 st before the second marker. Continue until you have 12 thumb sts. Place these on a holder.

Left thumb gusset:
K31, PM, Inc-right, Inc-left, PM, work to end. Every other row increase 1 st after the first marker and 1 st before the second marker. Continue until you have 12 thumb sts. Place these on a holder.

Finishing:
Continue to twist the center 2 cables 3 more times. Rib all sts for 3 twists, BO. Pick up the 12 thumb sts and 3 along the hole at the top of the thumb. Work 3 rounds in stockinette, then 3 rounds of a 1x1 rib (*k1, p1*), BO.

Weave in all ends. If worked flat, sew seams up the palms and thumbs.
