In October 2004, Kristi Johnson and Paul Troxell opened Eleganza Yarns in an historic district of downtown Frederick, Maryland. This area, Shab Row/Everedy Square has been a wonderful area to call home to our beloved shop and customer friends. Our love of creation and design, and most importantly of people, has allowed Eleganza Yarns to blossom into an environment that fosters a vibrant and exciting extended community of knitters, crocheters, and spinners. You will find Eleganza Yarns' every nook and cranny filled with a large range of yarns and fibers, in a variety of colors and weights. Along with a complete line of notions, we have a large library of technical and design books and patterns with the perfect project for your taste. Our yarns cover the spectrum...alpaca, merino, fine cottons, silk, bamboo, linen, soy and more! Eleganza Yarns is a great adventure, NOT a culmination. With our customers we will continue to explore, create, instruct and coach. And if we all adhere to #8 of Principles of Knitting at Eleganza Yarns: Share the legacy, teach someone to knit, then perhaps someday we will eventually solve World Peace.

Manos del Uruguay

Description: Manos del Uruguay is our most popular yarn--and no wonder. It makes cozy sweaters and jackets, delightful hats, quick and wonderful scarves, luscious throws. It's soft and warm, easy to work with, and the colors are like nothing else: the kettle-dyeing process yields shades and tones that are dark, pale, bright, or muddy, but always subtly (or not-so-subtly) striated. And because it's hand-spun, the texture and thickness vary a bit as well. Just as we want our knitting to look professional but still obviously hand-made, we love the way Manos shows the work of human hands.
